| Professor Sankar Sen Ph.D. in Marketing from the Wharton School |
BFew notions have so fully captured the imagination of businesses today as that of corporate social responsibility (CSR). There is virtual consensus among companies worldwide that CSR, or a company's commitment to maximizing long-term societal and environmental well-being through its business practices, is a strategic imperative because of its ability to not only do good but also elicit company-favoring responses from important stakeholder groups. Yet, poll upon poll reveals that most companies are still struggling to optimize their CSR efforts, due in no small part to their uncertainty about the conditions under which such efforts maximize stakeholder-driven value.
